Vivide Mantero was born in Milan in 1962. She began as a professional photographer between Rome and Milan, specialized in portraits and fashion. In 1999, she left Italy and relocated to Zanzibar. There, she dedicated most of her time to portraits and reports in black and white. “I landed on the island after many journeys in Africa. The big lie. This is the way I love to call this corner of the world. A sort of unreal life where everything seems possible and valuable, very far away from our frenzied reality. My Zanzibar is a different Africa. Happy, in spite of all. Here I have found a chaotic and vital place where every face, every corner, every colour inspires me for my photographs. A simple daily act, a glance, a smile, can become an image, mostly in black and white. Through my camera I always try to dig into my models’ soul, to find some secret side of their personality”. Alongside her work as a photographer, under her father’s influence, Vivide has passionated in another art: sculpture. From recycled iron, she creates sculptures and design pieces. She moved to Cascais, Portugal, in 2016 where she founded Zawadi Studio.
